Purdue Bands and Orchestras have busy remaining April schedule

* 8 p.m. Friday (April 21), Elliott Hall of Music. "Showcase" featuring the Purdue Wind Ensemble, University Band, and guest conductor Loras Schissel.
Schissel, a senior musicologist at the Library of Congress, leading authority on the music of Percy Aldridge Grainger, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, and Serge Koussevitzky, and conductor of the Blossom Festival Band, will share his talents with Purdue's concert. He will work individually with the Purdue Wind Ensemble and University Band to polish one of his original pieces and will then conduct the piece during the concert weekend. This is free and open to the public.
* 2:30 p.m. Saturday (April 22), Elliott Hall of Music. "Showcase" featuring the Concert Band, Collegiate Band, and guest conductor Loras Schissel.
* 8 p.m. Saturday (April 22), Elliott Hall of Music. "Showcase" featuring the Symphonic Band, Varsity Band, and guest conductor Loras Schissel.
* 2:30 p.m. Sunday (April 23), Elliott Hall of Music. "Showcase" featuring the Purdue Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras, guest conductor Dan Whisler and guest pianist Keith Teepan. This is free and open to the public.
* 8 p.m. April 29, Lafayette Theater. "The Major 7th Tour," featuring Chameleon. For the seventh consecutive year, Chameleon, Purdue and North Central Indiana's most popular party band of the 1970s, announces its annual reunion tour schedule, which includes a concert and dance at the Lafayette Theater. Chameleon's only Indiana tour stop will be on Saturday evening, April 29. The band will play hits from the 1970s (Earth, Wind & Fire, Santana, Chicago, Doobies, Temptations, etc.), but look for a few current selections as well (ex, Bruno Mars). Get there early when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. because you won't want to miss the Purdue Alumni Jazz Band jam session, which will include standards from the 1950s and 1960s.
Tickets are just $10 and all of the proceeds benefit jazz band scholarships at Purdue. This event is in partnership with the Lafayette Theater.
*2:30 p.m. April 30, Slayter Center "Jazz on the Hill," featuring all jazz bands and the Alumni Jazz Band. Purdue Bands & Orchestras' popular "Jazz on the Hill" encourages music fans to make the most of spring's warmer weather and enjoy an outdoor concert at Slayter Center. Musicians in five jazz bands will be featured along with special guests, the Alumni Jazz Band. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating. This concert is free and open to the public.
