Purdue computer science professor to be elected into hall of fame
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A Purdue University computer science professor will be inducted into the Information Systems Security Association’s Hall of Fame for her work with online security.
Elisa Bertino is the only 2017 recipient of the honor.
The organization’s hall of fame selection is a lifetime achievement award that recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional qualities of leadership in their own career, as well as an exemplary commitment to the information security profession.
In her current role as director of the Cyber Space Security Lab (Cyber2Slab), Bertino leads a large number of research projects. Her work is focused on studying Internet of Things security, data security and privacy and security for mobile systems. She also leads research projects in cyberinfrastructure for scientific research.
“Cyber-security is more critical than ever, especially with novel IoT and embedded system applications,” she said. “At the same time, intensive use of data and machine learning techniques is raising privacy anad transparency issues. I am excited about those new challenges and believe that the security research group in the computer science department of Purdue has the critical mass to provide effective and efficient solutions to these challenges.”
Bertino serves as a fellow member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Association for Computing Machinery and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
For the research that she has performed and contributions that she has made to the cybersecurity field, Bertino has been recognized with many major awards: the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, the IEEE Computer Society Tsutomu Kanai Award and the ACM Special Interest Group on Security, Audit and Control Outstanding Contributions Award.
