WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University, Junior Achievement of Central Indiana and 3D Parts Manufacturing invite media to attend the ribbon-cutting for the newest JA BizTown shop on Thursday (Oct. 26) from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with brief remarks beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Located at 7435 N. Keystone Ave. in Indianapolis, JA BizTown allows elementary school students to practice operating banks, managing restaurants, handling finances and voting for “mayor,” before they are old enough to drive. With its new shop, Purdue will help students further understand the importance of advanced manufacturing to the Indiana economy, both through classroom lessons and new multi-media manufacturing displays and hands-on activities in the JA BizTown space.

The educational space was recently updated, in conjunction with Pepper Construction of Indiana, which donated the construction labor and equipment, so it better reflects a modern 21st-century factory. 3D Parts Manufacturing LLC will continue to provide the additive manufacturing equipment already in the space.

“When we first announced the partnership, we had very professional 3D graphical depictions of the space and our imaginations to help us dream big dreams about what we were going to be able to do for students visiting JA BizTown,” said Barbara J. Alder, director of Purdue’s Office of Engagement for Metropolitan Indianapolis. “After our partners at Pepper Construction of Indiana had finished, new furniture and fixtures were moved in, and students had returned, the outcome exceeded our wildest expectations.  Now Indiana’s students have a place where they can dream big dreams, plan for their futures, and learn about opportunities in advanced manufacturing.  We hope to see many guests visiting not only during our ribbon cutting but throughout the year.”

The winner of the Purdue Office of Engagement student sign design contest also will be revealed at the ribbon-cutting. The contest was open to Purdue undergraduate students at the main campus, statewide Purdue Polytechnic Institute locations or regional campuses. The winner and finalists will receive Amazon gift cards.
