‘Make Your Mark’ on Purdue Day of Giving on April 25

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Mark your calendar to “Make Your Mark” on the fifth annual Purdue Day of Giving on April 25. The 24-hour online, social media-driven fundraising effort invites students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, retirees and friends to grant opportunities by supporting the university and its programs.

“This year, Purdue Day of Giving invites Purdue supporters to make an individual difference — to make your mark — to keep a Purdue education affordable and within the reach of more students,” says Amy Noah, vice president for development. “Thanks to the worldwide Purdue community’s loyalty and generosity, Purdue Day of Giving invites everyone to get involved and support the university’s progress and priorities.”

Last year, the Purdue community raised a record $28.2 million through 15,181 individual gifts. It was the third consecutive year Purdue earned the record for most dollars raised for higher education through a single-day campaign. That event also set Purdue records for number of donations received, number of gifts from international donors and number of countries represented. Another highlight was an increase in student involvement.

Increased participation is key to surpassing last year’s success, says Kate Jolly, director of digital fundraising and Purdue Day of Giving project manager for the University Development Office. There are 30 hourly challenges and six all-day challenges that will keep Purdue’s 66 participating academic and non-academic programs competing for cash prizes to add to the impact of donations.

Challenges include largest single donation, most parent donors, most alumni donors of the last decade, donation from person living farthest from campus and a random Purdue Day of Giving selfie.

A competition specifically for student organizations will engage 156 participating student groups in a friendly rivalry and the chance for cash prizes.

A free, community-wide comedy show designed to celebrate Purdue Day of Giving and thank the Purdue Day of Giving participants will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Elliott Hall of Music. Details on reservations and free-ticket acquisition will be announced when that information is available.

Those who give to Purdue during the Day of Giving can direct their gifts where they choose by going online to DayofGiving.purdue.edu or by calling toll-free at 800-319-2199. Gifts to Purdue Day of Giving count toward “Ever True: The Campaign for Purdue University.”
