WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University’s premier women’s vocal ensemble, the Purduettes, will kick off their performance season with the annual Picnic with the Purduettes concert at 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at Slayter Center, 1209 W. Stadium Ave.

Sponsored by Purdue Musical Organizations, Picnic with the Purduettes is a free performance and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a picnic basket and blanket to enjoy the outdoor performance.

Founded in 1942, the original Purduettes fulfilled previously booked appearances of the Purdue Varsity Glee Club when the onset of World War II depleted the Glee Club’s roster. Since then, the Purduettes have continued performing for community, university, corporate, business, private, government, alumni, arts and school events throughout Indiana, the United States, Canada, Europe and Central America. Maintaining a high level of academic achievement, the women of the Purduettes pursue excellence on and off the stage, employing a leadership honorary and a mentor program to help further the development and lives of each individual, while involving Purdue alumnae and community leaders through the outreach efforts of the program. Directed by Jeff Vallier, who is assisted by Jacob Stensberg, the Purduettes provide energetic and quality entertainment suitable for audiences of all ages and backgrounds, all the while connecting the university to alumni, friends and communities worldwide.

Purdue Musical Organizations offers six choral ensembles and one handbell choir. PMO serves Purdue University as ambassadors of goodwill on campus, across the country and around the world.
