Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Eugene Spafford, a professor of computer sciences and executive director emeritus of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security, has been selected as one of two recipients of the 2018 ISE Luminary Leadership Award, announced by T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship marketing firm. The award will be presented during the ISE North America Leadership Summit and Awards event Nov. 8-9 in Chicago.

- Jasmine Gonzalvo, a clinical associate professor in the College of Pharmacy, has been appointed by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to represent diabetes educators as a member of the National Clinical Care Commission. The commission will identify inefficiencies and gaps in activities across federal programs and provide recommendations to Azar and Congress on how to improve program coordination and enhance clinical care. Notables:

-  The Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers recently held its annual international conference in Chicago, where Purdue University’s Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, which houses the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program, was named one of five finalists for the Exceptional Activities in Entrepreneurship Across Disciplines Award. • Alumni honors:

- Milad Alucozai, a Purdue alumnus and the visiting scholar of the Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering, was selected to the CGI University Honor Roll, an award given to a group of global leaders making an impact in their careers and dedicating their lives to tackling complex local and global challenges, according to a release. Alucozai is a partner of Good AI Capital, a Silicon Valley-based venture fund created with Purdue alum Darwin Long. The business focuses on early-stage investments in AI companies. Student honors:

- David Navarro, a Purdue University Global student, received a $5,000 military scholarship from the SR Education Group, an education research publisher and scholarship provider. Navarro served in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years, developing skills in technical writing and editing. He’s currently working toward becoming a teacher. More information can be found here.
