FEMA, FCC test of emergency alert systems set for Wednesday (Oct. 3)

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday (Oct. 3) will conduct a mandatory national test of the emergency alert system in the 2:18-2:20 p.m. range.

The test will assess the readiness for distribution of the national-level test message and verify its delivery, and will be available to radio, television, cable and direct broadcast satellite systems.

The Emergency Alert System message will test use of the National Periodic Test /NPT/ Event Code. The Wireless Emergency Alert System test will likely show up as “Presidential Alert” on cell phones that accept government alerts.

The test will show up on Boiler TV and cell phones that accept wireless emergency alerts.

FEMA makes any decision concerning postponement.
