Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

-  Terese Marie Mailhot, visiting assistant professor in the Department of English, recently received the Blue Metropolis First Peoples Prize in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The aim of the $5,000 prize is to increase national and international exposure to writers from indigenous communities. She received the award on May 4 in Montreal.

- Nancy Marchand-Martella, the Suzi and Dale Gallagher Dean of the College of Education, was one of 19 people selected as a fellow for 2019 Impact Academy by the Deans for Impact. Scheduled to begin in July, the yearlong fellowship is for leaders of educator-preparation programs with a focus on preparing the fellows for transformative change and improving their programs for preparing future teachers.

- Danicia Malone, program coordinator for the Purdue Black Cultural Center, was selected recently to receive an Arts and Culture Leader of Color Fellowship award sponsored by the Americans for the Arts (AFTA). She is one of 12 fellows selected to participate in this one-year professional development experience for emerging and mid-career arts leaders of color across arts disciplines. Malone has related, ongoing projects in Indianapolis; Dallas; New Orleans; and Monteverde, Costa Rica. More information on Malone and her work can be found here. Support for this fellowship comes from a partnership with AFTA, The Joyce Foundation and American Express Foundation.

- A study authored by Kelly Wilson, associate professor in the Krannert School of Management, has been selected as one of five finalists for this year’s Rosabeth Moss Kanter Excellence in Work Family Research Award. Ellen Kossek, the Basil S. Turner Professor of Management, was a co-author of the article, “Misery Loves Company: An Investigation of Couples’ Inter-Role Conflict Congruence.”

- Vijay Raghunathan, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, was selected as one of five recipients of the Under-40 Innovators Award, sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Raghunathan is the director of the Embedded Systems and IoT Lab, which he founded in 2006. More information can be found here.
