Security organization tabs Purdue campus as state’s safest

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University continues to draw high marks in campus security.

YourLocalSecurity, a division of ADT Security Systems, ranked the safest campus in each of the 50 states, and Purdue topped Indiana’s list. The ranking follows those of recent years from listings.

  • In 2016, Purdue was ranked as the 13th safest campus in the nation by Safewise.
  • The National Council for Home Safety and Security listed Purdue as the 14th safest nationally in 2017 and 12th safest in 2018.

“These acknowledgements speak not only to the job our first responders are doing, including Purdue police and fire, but also to our students’ dedication to, ‘If you see something, say something.’” said Carol Shelby, senior director of environmental health and public safety. “It is very much a community of people doing their part.”

YourLocalSecurity’s rankings used methodology that accounts for school size, type of crimes, student surveys and other relevant data.
