Appointments, honors and activities

Faculty and staff honors:

- Nicole Adams, clinical assistant professor in the School of Nursing, and Andrew Cabamalan, senior quality advisor for Purdue Healthcare Advisors, were recently honored by the Tippecanoe Recovery Community at the 2019 Tippecanoe Celebration of Recovery for their work in addressing the community’s opioid crisis.

- Sarah Calve, the Leslie A. Geddes Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been named a 2019 Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering Young Innovator as a result of her paper published in Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering, a journal by the Biomedical Engineering Society.

Student honors:

- The National Communication Association (NCA) selected Clinton Brown, a graduate student in the Brian Lamb School of Communication, as the 2019 recipient of the Donald P. Cushman Memorial Award. Given annually, the award honors the top-ranked student-authored paper from all NCA units that competitively rank papers for programming at the NCA annual convention. Brown co-authored the essay “Childfree and ‘Bingoed’: Competing Discourses of Reproductive Normativity and Autonomy Animated in Online Narratives of Conversations about Voluntary Childlessness,” with Elizabeth Hintz. The essay examines how people communicatively negotiate family expectations and what constitutes a family. Brown’s award will be presented Nov. 16 at the NCA 105th Annual Convention in Baltimore.
