Purdue’s College of Education invites students for Become a Teacher Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Prospective students in education and their parents can learn more about Purdue’s College of Education during its annual, daylong Become a Teacher Day event.

 The college is expecting at least 160 high school students from Indiana and beyond for this year’s Become a Teacher Day. The event will be a day filled with fun, learning and immersion into the ever-expanding education program at Purdue.

“In a time where Indiana is facing a teacher shortage, it will be encouraging to see so many enthusiastic young adults excited to learn about being a teacher,” said Abby Laufman, teacher education recruiter for the College of Education.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday (Sept. 16) in Stewart Center and includes an information fair where students can explore majors, study abroad programs and more.

After checking in, students and attendees will hear from Jennifer Barce, managing director of academic services, and afterward, informational sessions about financial aid, housing, admissions and student success will take place.

Following the information sessions, students and parents will dine in one of Purdue’s dining courts alongside student ambassadors from the College of Education.

After lunch, students will have the opportunity to take photos with the famous Boilermaker Special “locomotive,” which is Purdue’s mascot, and go on a scavenger hunt with student ambassadors. At the end of the day, students will be able to leave with a greater knowledge of the college itself as well as a fun swag bag. Along with the events planned throughout the day, there will be opportunities to meet fellow prospective students, faculty and staff of the college and get a feel for a future life as a Boilermaker.

• 8:30-9:15 a.m. Check-in and information fair.
• 9:15-10 a.m. Dean’s welcome.
• 10 a.m.–noon Breakout sessions.
• Noon-1 p.m. Lunch.
• 1-2 p.m. Boilermaker Special and scavenger hunt.
