The flu could be the worst gift to give this holiday season

There are few gifts you could give to loved ones over the holidays that would be less appreciated than a case of the flu. But there are a few precautions you can take to help protect your friends and family from getting the flu, says Abby Richards, an associate professor of nursing who specializes in public health.

How does protein fit in your holiday diet or New Year's resolutions?

While some diets load up on protein and other diets dictate protein sources, it can be hard to know what to consume as part of your diet. A new study by Purdue nutrition scientists shows that eating more protein daily than what is recommended may benefit only a few – those who are actively losing weight by cutting calories or those strength training to build more lean muscle mass.

5 tips: Refresh your home plumbing to reduce potentially unhealthy buildups

If you have people coming to visit over the holidays in a part of your home that isn’t used very often, you might want to refresh the plumbing first, says a water quality researcher. As water sits in pipes, the concentration of metals builds up, which could lead to unhealthy levels of metals like lead in your water.
