WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue Fraternity, Sorority and Cooperative Life (FSCL) governing councils were recognized for their accomplishments at the 2020 Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values (AFLV) Central Leadership Conference, recently held Jan. 30-Feb. 2 in Indianapolis.

Purdue’s FSCL Health and Safety Initiative received the Michael A. McRee Change Making Experience Award, an honor that recognizes a team-based program or initiative that has accelerated progress in the fraternity/sorority experience.

The Health and Safety Initiative is one week of interactive programming addressing topics like hazing prevention, responsible alcohol use and risk management. The initiative occurs each semester and is developed by Novak Talks, a consulting group and experts in the field of risk management. The Student Fee Advisory Board helps fund the initiative. Purdue also was the recipient of the Change Making Experience Award in 2019 for its Path Moving Forward initiative.

Purdue’s Panhellenic Association received the Sutherland Award, which is among the highest level of council achievements for Panhellenic and governing councils. To be recognized, a council must earn a combined highest achievement score in the four directional areas: Accountability, collaboration, education and innovation.

Purdue’s Interfraternity Council earned the highest rating possible in three of the directional areas: accountability, collaboration and education. The ratings indicate that the council is excelling in managing responsibility and following through on standards, working across the council and larger community, and educating members on necessary and relevant topics.
