Retail dining changes for fall semester: New options open as Union locations close for renovation

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Retail dining locations on the ground floor of the Purdue Memorial Union have closed for renovation, and significant retail dining additions on campus will be open for the start of the fall 2020 semester.

New and updated retail dining locations

New retail dining offerings that will be open as of Monday (Aug. 24) include Chick-fil-A in Griffin Residence Hall North, and Qdoba and Panera Bread in Meredith Residence Hall South. York Street Market will temporarily open in Griffin Residence Hall North, and Jersey Mike’s will replace that location later this fall. Saladworks at the Wing Chan Café is expected to open in the Chaney-Hale Hall of Science by the end of the month. The new dining locations, which are managed by Aramark, accept student meal swipes with the exception of the Wing Chan Café and will be open to the public.

Also opening by Monday are the remodeled Harrison Grill in Harrison Residence Hall, and Freshens and the Boilermaker Market in the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center. These locations also will accept meal swipes.

”This fall is the start of some exciting changes to the retail dining portfolio on the West Lafayette campus,” said Rob Wynkoop, associate vice president of auxiliary services. “Through our partnership with Aramark, new concepts will be available this fall including the reopening of Crave Food Hall, with even more to come when the ground floor Union renovation is complete.”

Food trucks

A variety of food trucks will be available north of the Purdue Armory beginning Monday. Up to five food trucks will be present at a time, and the core group will include Aramark’s Daily Bite and local vendors Emergency Munchie Truck (EMT), Roasted Toasted & Baked, The Guac Box, Grilled Chicken and Rice, and Famous Franks. The trucks will be serving lunch and dinner seven days a week, and some will offer breakfast options. Trucks will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. Additional vendors may be added in the future.

Union Club Hotel

The newly renovated Union Club Hotel has three dining locations that are open to the public and managed by White Lodging: 8Eleven Restaurant, Boiler Up Bar and Leaps Coffee.

Purdue Memorial Union ground floor information

The closure of the retail dining locations in PMU is scheduled to continue through January 2022, when the renovation project is expected to be complete. Different dining options will debut at that time.

During the fall, access to the Purdue Team Store and Evans, Piggott, and Finney Eye Care Group will be maintained at the Grant Street and Great Hall stairwells. Access to UPS and Fidelity will be maintained from the northwest and west stairwells closest to Academy Park. Elevators will also remain in service during this time.

Protect Purdue retail dining activities

Retail dining locations open on campus this fall will have reduced seating capacity to promote social distancing with carry-out only. Outdoor dining tents will be available at various locations on the West Lafayette campus to provide additional seating capacity, with plexiglass barriers in place for enhanced safety.
