Voting now open for Purdue Global’s SXSW EDU entries

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Global staff and leadership have submitted four presentations for a key conference in March that will bring together top educators from around the country.

The SXSW EDU Conference is scheduled for March 4-7 in Austin, Texas. In preparation, Purdue Global and various institutions around the country hope their ideas are selected for presentation at the conference.

The submissions are in the Health & Wellness, Leadership for Tomorrow and Equity & Justice categories. SXSW EDU allows people to vote for their favorite presentations as part of the selection process.

Voting is open for all people and can be done by clicking on the presentation links below. Purdue Global’s four presentations are:

  • Driving Success: The Power of Coaching in Higher Education: This workshop features Karen McGregor, executive director of student success for Purdue Global, along with Rachel Cohen-Ford (UT-Austin) and Jennie Sanders (Western Governors University), and focuses on highlighting innovative coaching models and outcomes that meet the needs of adult learners and underserved students.
  • Credit for Prior Learning: A Workforce Development Strategy: This session will help attendees understand the benefits of credit for prior learning for students, employers and institutions , and how to create credit for prior learning pathways. Attendees will also learn how these credits can be used to help bridge the skills gap between education and the workforce. This session is led by Allegra Fowler, executive director for prior learning recognition with Purdue Global.
  • Best in Class Basic Needs Support IS Student Success: This session is led by Karen McGregor, executive director of student success with Purdue Global, and Jill Robinson Kramer, vice president at the Gardner Institute. The presenters will define what it really means to support the basic needs of students and why this is the key to student success for the adult learner.
  • Empowering & Developing Visionary Thinkers: Maricel Lawrence, innovation catalyst for Purdue Global, explores the concept of long-term thinking and its profound impact on leadership and organizational success. Provost Jon Harbor will be on this panel.

First held in 2011, SXSW EDU brings together education leaders to discuss complex issues in academia and celebrate innovation in learning.
