New online master’s in AI from Purdue is designed for people who build AI systems and for people who use them

Applications are open for Purdue University’s new 100% online Master of Science in artificial intelligence degree, which features two majors, one for people who build AI systems and one for people who make use of them. The online courses are developed and taught by a diverse, campuswide collection of the same internationally known faculty researchers who teach on Purdue’s flagship campus. Because AI is a rapidly evolving field, the program takes a future focus by incorporating the most current research to provide up-to-date information to students.

AP Video — How AI can help simplify politics

Dan Goldwasser, associate professor in Purdue University’s Department of Computer Science, explains what natural language processing is and how it could help the public better understand the impact political legislation will have on them. Natural language processing (NLP) is an area of artificial intelligence that processes human language. One way NLP can help in political communication is by summarizing legal documents that are written in a way that is hard for the general public to understand. This system can help decipher what a policy or piece of legislation actually means and how it will impact people.

Analytics organization names Purdue University safest college in America

Purdue University’s persistent pursuit to prioritize the safety of the campus community is reflected in a new national ranking by Academic Influence that names Purdue America’s safest college. Academic Influence, an organization consisting of academics and data scientists, placed Purdue at No. 1 on its list of the 15 safest colleges. The ranking considered the following elements: compliance with the Clery Act, various security features, low crime statistics and mental health services.

Purdue’s next giant leap: Energy Transition, empowering future engineers and entrepreneurs to create sustainability

Purdue University is stepping up to a new level of research and education innovation that will cross disciplines, link campus expertise, and empower future engineers and entrepreneurs with the launch of the newest Purdue Engineering Initiative, Leading Energy-Transition Advances and Pathways to Sustainability (LEAPS). The initiative will focus on those topics that are especially relevant to Indiana and the Midwest in particular. With one of the nation’s highest concentrations of manufacturing jobs per capita and over $40 billion in exports of manufactured goods, according to the National Association of Manufacturing, Indiana must fill the rapidly growing demand for power, products and processes that are consonant with the energy transition in order to retain and attract Hoosier-grown businesses.
