Purdue and Dell Technologies unite to establish gaming lounge featuring Alienware technology

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Dell Technologies and Purdue University have reached an agreement to establish the Alienware Purdue Gaming Lounge, marking it as one of the largest dedicated collegiate gaming facilities in the country.

Housed within the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center in support of competitive and casual gaming initiatives at Purdue, the 2,000-square-foot space will be outfitted with Alienware’s premium gaming equipment. The lounge is expected to open in August 2024.

“We are honored to have this unique partnership with Dell Technologies, which plays such a pivotal role in the global technology industry, and we’re excited to implement cutting-edge Alienware gaming technology,” said Ian Hyatt, chief information officer at Purdue University. “The university strives to meet the academic needs and personal interests of its students. This lounge will serve as a resource for students to gather with friends and enjoy gaming within the community, while also aligning with Purdue’s overarching commitment to utilizing state-of-the-art computing technology across all fields of interest.”

In addition to casual gaming use, the lounge will provide an elite gaming space for students to train and compete in esports at the highest level by using best-in-class equipment. There are several esports and gaming organizations at Purdue. This offering also serves as a unique attraction for prospective incoming students.

“We are proud to partner with Purdue on this next milestone along the university’s gaming and esports journey,” said Matt McGowan, general manager of Alienware. “We are committed to supporting collegiate gamers, from novices to varsity players, by providing the high-performance PCs, displays and equipment required to help them compete to their best abilities. At Alienware, we truly believe collegiate esports is the next frontier of esports and remains one of our top priorities as we expand our road map of investments across the nation.”

The partnership encompasses:

  • Design, materials, fabrication and build-out of the new space
  • Best-in-class Alienware gaming equipment (including all PCs, displays and accessories to support the space)
  • Scholarship funding during the term of the agreement
  • Establishment of an Alienware kiosk on or near campus

“We’re excited to partner with Alienware to provide a new space for students who are interested in gaming to connect with each other,” said Beth McCuskey, Purdue University’s vice provost for student life. “Purdue has a growing population of students who are interested in gaming, and we’re proud to offer this new space for students to engage in these interests with their peers.”
