Purdue recognized among world’s best in latest QS rankings and rises to No. 8 among U.S. public universities

Purdue University has once again earned praise as one of the world’s best academic institutions. In the latest 2025 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings, released Tuesday (June 4), Purdue came in No. 89 globally, a gain of 10 spots from last year. Purdue is again a top 10 U.S. public university, coming in at No. 8 overall, an improvement of two spots from last year. Since QS started its independent global ranking, this is the highest Purdue has been ranked among U.S. public universities.

What lies beneath: Mars’ subsurface ice could be a key to sustaining future habitats on other planets

Purdue University planetary scientist Ali Bramson’s research is laying the foundation for future extraterrestrial exploration. She is focused on finding ice deposits beneath the barren surfaces of the moon and Mars, providing a buried resource important for future human habitats and even space travel itself. Subsurface ice also is a compelling target for astrobiology, climatology and geology research.

Purdue and Dell Technologies unite to establish gaming lounge featuring Alienware technology

Dell Technologies and Purdue University have reached an agreement to establish the Alienware Purdue Gaming Lounge, marking it as one of the largest dedicated collegiate gaming facilities in the country. Housed within the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center in support of competitive and casual gaming initiatives at Purdue, the 2,000-square-foot space will be outfitted with Alienware’s premium gaming equipment. The lounge is expected to open in August 2024.

New quantum materials promise unimagined innovations in computing, memory

Erica Carlson, 150th Anniversary Professor of physics and astronomy in Purdue University’s College of Science and a member of the Purdue Quantum Science and Engineering Institute, is working to develop quantum materials to design future technologies in the fields of computing, construction, medicine, engineering and more. Quantum materials sound futuristic, but they include materials as fundamental as magnetized iron. Quantum materials produce exotic particles, and thus behaviors, that would be impossible in the wider world. The advent of increasing numbers of progressively exceptional materials is launching a new wave of innovation, making unimagined future technologies possible.

Purdue, IU, Notre Dame join to create statewide consortium for national defense research

Purdue University, Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame have formalized a joint research effort to address the nation’s most critical defense challenges. The Indiana Research Consortium will leverage the combined strengths, facilities and capabilities of the state’s three leading research universities, which together have decades of cutting-edge defense experience, in support of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, mission.
