Shye Robinson was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Argentina on the IFSA-Summer in Buenos Aires program. The opportunity to learn about Argentina’s politics and enhance her understanding of international relations drew her to this program. She looks forward to both her practicing her Spanish and visiting the Matederos Fair while in Argentina.

One of Shye’s many talents is competitive hip-hop dancing. Through this activity, she can let her creativity flow and share her love for music and dance with those around her. Buenos Aires, Argentina is the birthplace of tango, so while there, she hopes to expand her repertoire to include elements of their dance.

Keeping with dance’s ability to connect people across cultures, Shye’s proposed follow-on project includes teaching the Argentine tango to students on the dance teams at her former high school. The goal of this project is to introduce them to another culture’s dance, share her experiences from study abroad, raise awareness of the Gilman, and encourage them to consider studying abroad themselves when they enter college. Most importantly, she hopes to create an environment where they can have fun together participating in a multi-cultural activity.
