Arden Woodall received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship award to teach in Colombia. After learning about this country through her tutoring relationship with Columbian exchange students at Purdue, Arden was inspired to go and see firsthand where this community calls home.   She points to her love of storytelling as the source of motivation in her endeavors to build relationships at home and abroad.

Building on her diligence and motivation to study abroad and pursue her professional dreams of teaching, Arden Woodall applied to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program after being awarded both the 2022 Gilman Scholarship and the 2023 Beinecke Scholarship.  The former provided support for Arden to enhance her Spanish minor with a summer study abroad program in Mallorca, Spain.  The first Beinecke Scholar at Purdue, Arden plans to pursue a doctoral program after completing the Fulbright year in Colombia.

The Beinecke Scholarship Program was established in 1971 by the Board of Directors of The Sperry and Hutchinson Company to honor Edwin, Frederick, and Walter Beinecke. The Board created an endowment to provide substantial scholarships to college juniors for graduate education in the arts, humanities and social sciences at any accredited university. Each scholar receives $5,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school.
