Morgan Wetzel was awarded the Gilman Scholarship to study abroad in Tanzania on the School for Field Studies Fundamentals of Wildlife Management program. Tanzania is the perfect study abroad destination for her due to its role in wildlife conservation. She will get to mix classroom activities with field experiences on this study abroad.
Food and dance are the way to Morgan’s heart. Tanzania is home to a thriving food culture with Chipsi Mayai and Mandazi, as well as to a variety of cultural dances such as the Adumu. She looks forward to eating and learning to make a few culinary specialties she can share with her community back home. She hopes to be able to watch some Tanzanian dances while learning about how dance and Tanzanian culture interact.
As a woman in a STEM major, Morgan recognizes the challenges her peers may face in trying to fit a study abroad program into their degree plans. Therefore, she plans to present to her peers in this demographic about her experiences to show that study abroad is possible for them, too.
