Landscape and Turf Maintenance

Grounds staff installs new designs and renovates landscapes while providing comprehensive maintenance to the existing campus landscape and turf areas. The department is also responsible for cleaning up fall leaves, changing trash bags in the trash receptacles, cleaning ash urns and picking up litter on the exterior areas of campus.

Arbor Care

The arborists remove and plant trees as part of the carefully developed Campus Tree Care Plan, a continuous improvement effort that guides the assessment, care and management of campus trees.

Professional Landscape Service

The department has a licensed landscape architect who identifies and designs campus landscapes in need of renovations. Our architect also reviews capital landscape projects. Please reach out to the Grounds department for any landscape requests.

Greenhouse Operations

Campus flowers are propagated and grown in the department's greenhouses. Flowers are then planted and maintained in flower beds, pots and hanging baskets around campus. Holiday décor provides campus gateways and other strategic locations with evergreens and other seasonal items.

Pest Control

Technicians are certified for the removal of insect and animal pests including bedbugs. They conduct routine maintenance and are available 24/7 for time-sensitive needs.

To request their services, building occupants may use the Fix It service request portal to provide contact information, building, room number or other location and pest control services that are needed. Building deputies who need to request emergency, after hours or weekend pest control services should call the appropriate number at the top of the Fix It webpage.

Street Operations

The Street Operations crew is responsible for maintaining roadways, surface parking lots and the parking garage structures. This includes repairs and street sweeping.

Snow Removal

Staff keep the nearly 120 miles of sidewalks, 47 lane miles of streets and 200 acres of parking lots on campus free from snow and ice.
