Purdue University 2023-24 Highlights
June 27, 2024
Dear Boilermakers,
With the 2023-24 fiscal year ending at Purdue University, we are ever grateful for the tremendous work by colleagues and students who strive each day for one brick higher toward excellence at scale. It was a year filled with memorable moments of exciting momentum, including these 10:
- Aug. 15: Purdue University Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business officially launched with Jim Bullard as the inaugural Dr. Samuel R. Allen Dean.
- September-October: Purdue became the only U.S. institution selected as a leading university partner in all three national research hub competitions — Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen, Silicon Crossroads Microelectronics Commons and Heartland BioWorks.
- Jan. 8: Lilly Endowment Inc. awarded the university its largest single gift in history — $100 million to support two major Purdue University initiatives: Daniels School of Business and Purdue Computes.
- April 3: SK hynix Inc. announced it will build an advanced packaging fabrication facility for AI memory chips in Purdue Research Park with an initial investment of almost $4 billion, at the time the largest single economic development deal in state history and the largest such facility on an American university campus.
- April 8: The Boilermaker men’s basketball team capped off the winningest season in program history by advancing to the NCAA national championship game for the first time since 1969.
- May 15: Commercial air service returned to Purdue University Airport for the first time since 2004, and the airport’s new Amelia Earhart Terminal broke ground.
- May 23-24: The One Health Innovation District with Elanco was announced, and Eli Lilly and Company announced a joint pharmaceutical training facility with Purdue at LEAP — a key part of the Hard-Tech Corridor where Purdue will help create jobs, talent and innovation.
- June 5: With its highest aggregate ranking in history, Purdue will welcome the most selective and the highest yield rate of incoming class of undergraduate students in fall 2024.
- June 27: Based on the Purdue University in Indianapolis deal signed a year earlier, the first comprehensive urban campus of Purdue University launched in Indianapolis with multiple locations throughout the capital city.
- Yearlong: $1.3 billion is being invested in 23 physical facility projects — across student housing, academics, research, athletics and infrastructure — that are completed, ongoing or being planned.
Last month in Elliott Hall of Music, we celebrated more than 8,000 new Boilermaker alumni who walked across the stage to receive their individual diplomas in eight commencement sessions lasting a total of 16 hours. To our students and colleagues at this consequential institution where knowledge is created and disseminated with excellence at scale: Ever grateful, ever true!
Boiler Up to 2024-25!
