Tina Smith loved visiting the @PurdueMemorialUnion during the holidays to see the giant #Christmas trees that her husband, Darrell, took care of each year.

She hoped that one of the spruces in their backyard would grow tall enough someday that she and Darrell could donate it as the #Purdue Christmas tree.

Darrell helped that wish come true this year, in loving memory of his spouse who passed away eight years ago. Read the story at the πŸ”— in bio.

β€œI made it β€” everything I wanted to be in high school, I am today. I’ve achieved the goals I set for myself at #Purdue.”

Kayla Owens started setting those goals after a sixth-grade field trip to the West Lafayette campus. First up: graduating from the inaugural class at @purduepolyhs.

PPHS provided connections to the university, where she went next to study computer and information technology. While pursuing her degree, she became involved in clubs and organizations as well as two formative internships: one summer at @elilillyco, another at @corteva.

β€œIf I could go back in time and talk to my younger self, I would tell her she’s already succeeding,” she says. β€œI’d tell her to stay motivated and to always keep going.”

As of our Winter 2024 Commencement, she’s earned her degree and is ready to take on what’s next. Congratulations to Kayla and all graduates! πŸŽ“
