 Health Check

  • If you're not feeling well or are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 such as cough, shortness of breath or fever, please stay home.
  • We expect that all members of RecWell will take responsibility for their own health and safety and act in a manner that demonstrates respect and consideration for those around them, consistent with the Protect Purdue Pledge.

 Masks

  • Face masks will be required at all times when using RecWell facilities and spaces, even while exercising.
  • Masks are required on the pool deck; however, you may remove your mask upon entry to the water. When you exit the water, you must put your mask back on.
  • When outdoors, masks are required if you are sharing equipment of any kind OR when social distance of six feet cannot be maintained.
  • Exhalation valve masks & face shields will not be permitted. 
  • Keep the CoRec open! Wear your mask. Partipants who are not mask wearing appropriately will be removed/suspended from RecWell facilities.

Contactless Entry & Exit
Cleaning Protocols
  • Members are asked to clean equipment before and after use. Additional cleaning stations will be made available near exercise equipment, locker rooms and other high traffic areas.
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the facility.
  • Equipment and high-touch surfaces will be sanitized continuously during operational hours and disinfected at the end of each business day.
  • Electrostatic cleaning machines will be utilized during disinfection procedures.
Limited Capacities & Equipment Checkout
  • After de-densifying and distancing measures, the CoRec’s maximum capacity is 350 people at one time.  To manage this reduced capacity, reservations for building access will be required. 
Member Services & Building Access
  • Updates
    • RecWell will no longer accept cash.
  • Affiliate, Retiree, and Alumni Memberships
    • At this time, guests are severely limited on campus. The following membership types are suspended as of 8/24/2020: Silver Sneakers, Optum, Alumni and Alumni household members. 
    • For memberships on recurring deduction, billing will resume September 1st.
    • For memberships that were paid in full, members will receive an extension for all days lost due to closure. All membership questions can be directed at RecWellMS@purdue.edu
    • Day passes will be sold to Purdue students and faculty/staff only.
    • Guest passes for visitors will not be sold at this time and will be reevaluated at a later date.
  • New Memberships
    • Memberships will only be available for Purdue faculty, staff and students at this time.
    • Faculty/staff members are able to purchase recurring monthly membership or 4/12 month memberships, & part-time on campus students can purchase a semester membership. 
    • Towel Service can be purchased online and locker service must be purchased at the Member Services desk.

What's Available?

Aquatics
  • Lap swim only with one swimmer per lane.
  • Masks required until you enter the water.
  • Follow directional signs for lap swimming guidance.
Indoor Facilities
  • Elevators are limited to one person at a time.
  • Lounge and study spaces have been modified to allow for safe distancing. Please do not move chairs.
  • In restrooms, members are encouraged to practice physical distancing by using every other sink, stall, etc. as well as washing their hands frequently. These spaces will be cleaned frequently.
  • Water fountains are bottle fill only. Please bring your own bottle.
Outdoor Facilities
  • Outdoor facilities are available. The following are approved lower risk activities: 
    • 4v4 Sand Volleyball
    • Cornhole
    • Disc Golf
    • Flag Football
    • Kickball
    • Soccer
    • Softball
    • Spikeball
    • Tennis
    • Ultimate Frisbee
      • Masks are required when unable to maintain social distance or sharing equipment.
  • Facilities are open during all daylight hours. Weather permitting, through Thanksgiving Break, these spaces will be lit at the following times:
    • Sunday-Friday 6pm-9pm
    • Saturday 6pm-8pm
      • Fields will not be lit during home football game days.
  • These spaces are intended to drop-in open recreation. Reservations are required for formal events or to ensure that field space is available. More information about our outdoor facilities can be found here.
Fitness Spaces
  • Equipment and spaces have been modified to meet safe distancing measures.
  • Please note various signage, floor markings and equipment modifications and respect these new measures.
  • Spotting for heavy lifting encouraged with spotters at each end of the barbell to practice physical distancing.
  • Racquetball courts are open for single player use only.
Group Fitness
  • In-person classes, outdoor classes and virtual classes will be available.
  • In-person classes will require reservations and schedules will be adjusted for lower capacity limits, with more class times available.
  • We're all in this together; please wipe down equipment before and after use, as well as returning equipment to proper location.
  • Masks are required.
  • When in classes outdoors, masks may be removed if six feet of social distancing can be maintained.
Locker Rooms & Towel Service
  • In the locker rooms, members are encouraged to practice physical distancing by using every other sink, stall, etc. as well as washing their hands frequently. These spaces will be cleaned frequently.
  • If you have purchased towel service, access will be available at the Equipment Center window.
Open Recreation
  • One-on-one activities including badminton, pickleball and table tennis are available.
  • No racquets or equipment will be available for check out, however, they will be available for purchase. Members are encouraged to bring their own equipment.
  • Racquets, birdies, tennis balls, mats and table tennis balls will be available for sale.
Personal Training
  • Masks are required to be worn by both trainer and client throughout the entire session. 
  • In-person Personal Training sessions will be limited to the following four spaces when working with their trainer in the CoRec:
    • The Personal Training Studio
    • Assessment Room
    • Multipurpose Room #1
    • Faculty/Staff Fitness
  • Trainers will practice safe physical distancing at all times when working with clients. 
  • Clients are required to wipe down all equipment before and after each use. 
  • For those who prefer virtual personal training, sessions will be coordinated between the trainer and client. 
Sport Programs
  • Masks are required if you are sharing equipment of any kind OR when social distance of six feet cannot be maintained.
  • Club Sports teams will not be able to travel or host competitions, but teams may be able to practice if safe physical distancing and equipment disinfection protocols can be maintained.
  • In-person Intramural Sports are limited; see list below. Virtual programs will be offered, with an emphasis on Esports.

Wellness
  • Massage Therapy will be available.
  • The therapist will wear gloves during the massage at the preference of the client; this means that if participants want a therapist to wear gloves, they will be available.
  • The massage therapist and the client are required to wear masks during the appointment.
  • The Mindfulness Room will be open following physical distancing protocols and limited to two people at a time. A selection of meditation music and recorded guided meditations are available to play through the room's sound system. 

What's Not Available?

In Member Services, Facilities & Operations
  • Day lockers will have limited availability, so we encourage members to leave valuables at home and bring in only items needed for your workout.
  • Equipment rental is not available at this time. We do have limited equipment available for purchase at our equipment center window.
  • Guest passes will not be sold at this time.
  • Tours will not be available at this time.
  • The Protect Purdue Implementation Team is working on parameters for events on campus. Until we receive more guidance, reservations for events in our facility are not available at this time.
  • The following activities are not permitted upon reopening:
    • Basketball
    • Climbing and Bouldering Wall
    • Faculty/Staff Fitness Room 
    • Multi-player Racquetball
    • Spas
    • Saunas
    • Multi-player Squash

In Programs
  • Boilermaker Challenge (Outdoor ropes course) will not host in-person activities at this time; virtual programs are available such as a virtual scavanger hunt, email Traves Freeland for more information.
  • Club Sports will operate on a limited and modified practice schedule only.
  • Cooking Demonstrations will be held virtually.
  • Financial Wellness, Nutrition Counseling and Wellness Coaching will be held virtually.
  • There will be no swim lessons during fall 2020.

Intramural Sports Policies

Check-In
  • All participants must be a residential student or a RecWell member to participate.
  • Prior to participation, the team captain is responsible for conducting and reporting the completion of a health check and Sport Programs policy review with all team members to the RecWell Sport Programs staff member in charge.
  • Individuals experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, or those that have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, will be instructed to leave the activity and directed to contact PPHC (Protect Purdue Health Center at 765-496-INFO (4636) or toll-free at 833-571-1043) immediately. Individuals must follow the direction of the case manager at PPHC.
  • PPHC case managers will likely begin the contact tracing that will identify those in close, significant contact with the student feeling ill and contact tracing will contact as appropriate. Each student, faculty or staff that is managed by PPHC is done so individually and the event coordinators or volunteers should refrain from communicating on behalf of the symptomatic student.
  • RecWell will track and store attendance through IM Leagues for the purpose of contract tracing.
Face Coverings
  • Face masks covering the nose and mouth must be worn at all times for participants, spectators and staff, regardless of physical distancing.
  • Participants are required to put on a new mask if their mask gets wet as well as properly storing their wet mask.
  • A tight-fitting mask will be used or smooth/tight-fitting double-ply gaiters, as they might provide even more protection.
  • If a participant does not have a face covering or does not keep the nose and mouth covered at all times, they will be asked to leave.
Distancing
  • It is understood that physical distancing when in live play, is not always possible.
  • Physical distancing of 6 feet is expected when participants are out of live play (sidelines), waiting to play the next game and any other time when feasible.
  • Spectators are required to maintain a physical distancing of 6 feet at all times.
Game Equipment & Sanitation
  • Game balls, such as volleyballs, kick balls, etc., may be shared player to player as necessary for game play.
  • The game ball must be sanitized at regular intervals.
  • A sanitation station will be available for each team that will include soapy water for sanitizing game balls.
Personal Equipment
  • Each participant must have their own individual equipment and may be the only person to handle equipment before, during and after participation.
  • Participants will not share other personal belongings with others including water bottles, clothing, towels, or other items used to wipe their faces and hands.
Hand Sanitation
  • Participants will be required to sanitize hands before transitioning to and from the field of play.
  • Hand and other sanitation supplies will be made available during sport program activities.
Hygiene
  • No spitting.
  • No licking fingers to get a better grip. A wet rag can be used instead.
Food
  • Eating is not allowed on or near the field of play by participants, spectators or staff.
In Game Celebration Alternatives
  • Celebrations such as high fives, handshakes, fist bumps, chest bumps or hugs are not permissible.
  • Participants are encouraged to come up with creative ways to celebrate while upholding the Protect Purdue Pledge.
  • Examples could include foot low fives, elbows taps, etc.
