Short Title: Genomics
Description: Structural, functional, and computational aspects of genome science are examined. Topics include the analysis of the structure and organization of various eukaryotic genomes and discussion of current techniques used for these analysis, with emphasis on genome-wide considerations. Structural Genomics: genome sequencing, library construction, comparative analysis, the roles and challenges of repetitive DNA, and chromatin dynamics. Functional Genomics: experimental design and methods for genome-level analysis of gene function. Methods for genome level analysis of mRNA, protein, and metabolites are examined. Computational Genomics: database query algorithms, including BLAST algorithms, organization, management, and statistical analysis of a variety of genomics data sets, including microarrrays. Offered in alternate years.
