Description: This course explores diverse representations of identity in post-1914 Austrian literature and films, especially in the aftermath of the two world wars. The goal of this course is to examine questions linked to national, ethnic, racial, and gender identity within the above historical, social, cultural, intellectual, and political context. Issues such as the self and the "other", historical burdens of fascism, the holocaust and responsibility, migration, transnationality, colonialism, race, and gender are advanced via narrative and/or cinematic representations of the Austrian context.
