Description: | A study of the nerve cells and their interactions. Includes discussions of the cellular basis of the integral function of the nervous system. The main topics are: nervous excitation, synaptic transmission, nervous plasticity, development of neuronal interactions, transmitter receptors including opiate receptors, sensory transduction, and the cellular basis of the brain function. The electrophysiological aspects of these topics are emphasized as well as information obtained by the use of various cell biological techniques such as thin-section and freeze-fracture electron microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and tissue culture. |
