Description: Examination of pathophysiological alterations and clinical management of acute conditions in adolescents and adults. Students will synthesize knowledge of physiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors in the assessment and management of acute illness. Focus is on the differential diagnosis, clinical management, patient and family education within the context of primary care. Health promotion models, as well as biopsychosocial and cultural theories are integrated throughout the course. The adult nurse practitioner role is analyzed in the context of caring for persons with acute conditions.
