Description: This course is a survey for non-science majors of the conceptual foundations, applications, and implications for the future of the recent major discoveries in physics. Examples of topics are quantum electronics, high temperature superconductivity, lasers, chaos, fractals, the cold fusion controversy, the search for the fifth force, quarks, and dark matter in the universe. Topics are presented in a descriptive and conceptual manner without mathematics.
