Description: Students at this level of large animal surgery clerkship are expected to function with greater independence, carrying out the history, physical examination, and postoperative care of all elective and certain emergency/intensive care patients of the species of their choice. Depending upon the capabilities and competence of the student, as determined by the surgery faculty and staff, he or she will have the opportunity to conduct supervised surgical procedures. Students may be allowed to spend up to five days off campus to work with a veterinarian engaged in practice in the student's area of interest. This off-campus experience should enhance the student's education by complementing experience gained on campus. Total clinic hours 212.
