Description: | Modern manufacturing systems are critically dependent on precision machines needed to produce metal products, optical, and electronic components. This course discusses principles of precision that are critical to both existing precision manufacturing and future submicron/nano technology. Main topics include: computer-aided tolerancing, gaging, and process capability; principles of accuracy, repeatability, and resolution; error assessment, budgeting and calibration; precision machine design; precision sensing and control with sub-micron resolutions; and engineering economic analysis for cost-effective precision specifications. |
