Description: The design of systems programs, in particular, operating systems and compilers. The role of systems programs as the link between computer hardware and software is emphasized. Topics include: operating system management, resource scheduling including CPU scheduling, memory management, and file systems; problems of assembling and loading computer codes, implementation of high level language features and special purpose language compilers. Projects applying fundamental concepts to the design and construction of working systems programs.
