Description: Fundamentals of linear finite-difference and finite-element solutions to dynamic field problems. Nonlinear finite-element techniques and nonlinear materials problems. State-space interpretation of finite-element models and Lyapanov stability criteria for systems. Application of finite-element models to materials processing system design and determination of system stability and controllability. Specific applications to deformation and solidification processing of materials are examined. Offered in alternate years.
