Lesson Overview:

Students work with your group to create a STEM based audio-visual presentation (MP4 video required) that clearly identifies the effects of stormwater runoff as they relate specifically to our campus, create a scaled map that identifies the major surface water flows (location and direction), drainage locations (gutter down spouts and storm drains) and whether they drain the runoff effectively. Include the identifications of features currently in place to mitigate (reduce) the runoff. Your video may include a mix of stills and videos taken on site.

Lesson Scenario:

Delmar, Delaware like many other towns in Delaware is experiencing intermittent localized flooding from stormwater runoff. You have been selected to research these impacts, and to try to develop solutions

Lesson or Unit Objectives:

 Students will be able to:

      • Develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems
      • Plan a shot list and execute still and video image and data capture of local events.
      • Produce story boards to detail visual and audio segments of a video production.
      • Combine captured media with researched media to produce still and video files.
      • Collaborate with local/regional expert(s) to collect and record data for presentation
      • Study local stormwater abatement procedures and assess their success
      • Produce finished presentation via mp4 video render and standard slide show products (Google slides and MS PowerPoint)
      • Work across disciplines to study and document ecological processes

    Age Level or Subject:

        • Grade 9-12, Environmental Science, Digital Design, MET, Agriculture and Plant Science, Earth Systems/Phys. Science, Biology
