Imaging Cancer Research Health & Human Sciences Academic Year 2024 Accepted Medical Imaging, Cancer There is no established clinical method for measuring immune responses within and around tumors. Due to the dynamic nature of the immune system and the immune response to therapy, conventional tissue biomarkers derived at a single timepoint (e.g., tumor resections, biopsies), generally do not provide reliable measures of the immune system. Furthermore, conventional imaging methods, often used to track changes in tumor size, are insensitive to the immune system and its effects on the tumor. Therefore, this course will prioritize development of imaging techniques that are sensitive to these effects and could be used as a subjective marker of immune response. This includes importing and exporting medical image data into visualization software, performing image registration, image segmentation, and feature extraction. In addition, the student will perform statistical analysis of the extracted image metrics to determine significant differences in imaging modality performence None needed; computer skills are beneficial 1 3 (estimated)
