Anthropology, Arts, Media, Interdisciplinary Studies
The student researcher will support faculty (lab co-directors Dr. Dada Docot and Dr. Courtney Wittekind) in Purdue’s Department of Anthropology as they launch the ALab, a lab focused on creative approaches to scholarly engagement. The ALab is a physical space in Recitation/Schleman Hall that provides an art gallery/exhibition space, multimedia equipment, and material resources for faculty, students, staff, and the public to gather, create, and share creative work.

The student researcher has an opportunity to support the development of the ALab during its Fall 2024 launch by researching similar spaces and creative communities within and outside Purdue, brainstorming, planning, and documenting events. The student researcher will also work with the ALab team to host visitors during the academic year and investigate various strategies in disseminating information about ALab broadly. Through working to support the Alab, student researchers will develop skills in qualitative research communication, collaborative multimodal anthropology work, ethnographic and qualitative teaming, and relational research and praxis.
Please note: There are two listings for this internship, you may apply to either listing to be considered for this position. There is an opportunity to continue this internship into spring 2025, if desired.
While the ALab is based in the Department of Anthropology, this project welcomes students interested in the intersection of research and the creative arts from across the College of Liberal Arts, regardless of major. The Margo Katherine Wilke Undergraduate Research Internship (Wilke) program is designed to support undergraduates in Purdue’s College of Liberal Arts. Students without a CLA major or minor may not be considered for this program. We particularly value strong organizational skills, communication skills, and a desire to be part of a team and collaborative process.
