Fort Ouiatenon Trade Beads: International Commerce and the French Fur Trade Margo Katherine Wilke Undergraduate Research Internship Program Fall 2024 Accepted Archaeology, Anthropology This project requires a student to conduct research on a collection of trade beads from the historic French fur trade site of Ouiatenon in Tippecanoe County. Trade beads are a common artifact at historic sites in North America, especially those associated with the 18th century fur trade. The intern will use published material to identify beads and discuss their use at Fort Ouiatenon within the global 18th century fur trade. Identification of trade beads based on published material including, when possible, when, where, and how beads were manufactured. Comparison of trade beads found at Fort Ouiatenon with those from contemporary sites.
