Empowering Older Adult Caregivers Against Online Financial Scams DUIRI - Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship Summer 2025 Accepted Cybersecurity This project aims to empower caregivers of older adults with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize and respond to online financial scams, a growing and evolving concern. Using Routine Activity Theory, we will co-design a prototype of a web application that provides just-in-time training and immersive roleplay scenarios. The application will feature realistic simulations, including fake text messages, phone calls, and social engineering tactics, to help caregivers build confidence and resilience. By strengthening caregivers as capable guardians, this initiative will reduce older adults’ vulnerability to scams, increase intervention effectiveness, and foster greater trust in caregiving relationships.
