Student affordability, faculty and staff compensation, strategic investments highlight 2023 Purdue budget

With a continued emphasis on student affordability, faculty and staff compensation increases, and strategic investments, Purdue University trustees today (June 10) adopted the University’s operating budget for the 2023 fiscal year with revenues modestly exceeding expenditures.

Trustees approve resolution to acquire West Lafayette housing complex, new on-site clinic contract at Purdue Northwest

Purdue trustees today (June 10) approved a resolution to request assistance from Purdue Research Foundation for the purchase of Aspire, a housing property in the Discovery Park District at Purdue. Under the approved agreement, PRF will acquire Aspire from Balfour Beatty-Walsh Housing LLC, which put the property on the market in April with the goal of closing the transaction in August. In the coming months, the university will execute the acquisition of Aspire from PRF. University ownership will require state approval.

Pharmacy alumna and husband gift $6 million to name Purdue’s first-ever termed deanship

The College of Pharmacy’s most generous donors have made history by funding the first-ever termed deanship at the University. Jeannie (Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy, 1961) and Jim Chaney have pledged $6 million to benefit the College of Pharmacy. Effective July 1, their gift will establish the Jeannie and Jim Chaney Dean of Pharmacy for the next five years as well as the Jeannie and Jim Chaney Dean’s Excellence Fund Endowment for Pharmacy.

Gift to Purdue University establishes Institute for Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals

A generous donation from a pioneer in pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing will establish the William D. Young Institute for Advanced Manufacturing of Pharmaceuticals at Purdue. The university institute, approved by the Purdue University Board of Trustees today (June 10) and launched with a gift from William D. Young, will unite faculty in overhauling pharmaceutical manufacturing with a goal of reducing costs and expanding access to innovative drugs emerging from biotechnology research.

Purdue trustees ratify appointments, award posthumous degrees

The Purdue University Board of Trustees today (June 10) ratified four appointments, awarded two posthumous degrees and approved resolutions of appreciation.

Trustees hear report on Purdue fundraising

Matt Folk, vice president for University Advancement and Alumni Engagement and president and CEO of the Purdue for Life Foundation, updated trustees today (June 10) on fundraising for the fiscal year ending June 30. Giving to Purdue has already hit an all-time high of $533.1 million, which includes the $68.2 million raised on Purdue Day of Giving. The total also includes an all-time high $149 million raised for student support.

Dooley reports on Purdue University Global

In the Purdue University Global Board of Trustees meeting today (June 10), Chancellor Frank Dooley reported that enrollment climbed to 34,421 in May, an increase of nearly 4% year-over-year. He noted that the university’s new budget makes new investments to help attain a renewed commitment to improving student success, as measured by retention and graduation rates, while expanding Purdue University’s land-grant mission to serve working adults. Dooley also talked about the impact R. Ethan Braden and Nathan Utz are making in aligning the university’s marketing and business-to-business outreach with Purdue West Lafayette. Barker reports to trustees on College of Pharmacy

In his presentation to trustees today (June 10), Eric Barker, the Jeannie and Jim Chaney Dean of Pharmacy, highlighted the expansion of nuclear pharmacy and radioisotope therapies programs. He noted the 94% on-time completion for the PharmD Class of 2022 and that Purdue pharmacy students have the lowest self-reported debt among Big Ten pharmacy schools. Barker talked about the world-changing research in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, pointing out that the research of Pharmacy faculty led to 69 patents being filed and 17 issued in fiscal year 2021.
