Purdue’s Sutherland elected to National Academy of Engineering

John W. Sutherland, professor and the Fehsenfeld Family Head of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his research contributions to environmental sustainability in manufacturing and their implementation in industry. Election to NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.

Presidential Lecture Series preview: Q&A with David W.C. MacMillan

Renowned researcher and entrepreneur David W.C. MacMillan, the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry at Princeton University who shared the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his groundbreaking work on catalysis, will join Purdue University President Mung Chiang for a Presidential Lecture Series conversation on Monday (Feb. 13). In advance of his Purdue visit, MacMillan answered a few questions posed to him on several topics.

Chiang joins Sen. Young for State of the Union address

Purdue President Mung Chiang joined U.S. Sen. Todd Young, R-Indiana, as his guest at Tuesday’s (Feb. 7) State of the Union address. “Dr. Chiang was an early supporter of the Endless Frontier legislation that became the CHIPS and Science Act, and Purdue University will be an instrumental partner in the implementation of key education and research components of the new law,” Young said.

Purdue research: SLHS major finds her balance in research

Still only in her second year at Purdue, Khalya Dent is balancing two research projects, one of which explores balance in older adults. The sophomore in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is exploring fall risk in older adults and how they maintain their balance. The research involves the vestibular area of the inner ear, which controls balance.
