A globally recognized microbiologist, Zhao-Qing Luo, professor of biological sciences, is receiving Purdue's 2022 Herbert Newby McCoy Award for his critical work to combat infectious diseases. Luo’s research is helping explain how microbial pathogens survive and multiply within hostile host cells, as well as how host cells respond to infection. Luo’s accomplishments will be celebrated at the annual Excellence in Research Awards ceremony at 3 p.m. April 6 at the Purdue Memorial Union.
NutraMaize, an agriculture company whose nutritionally enhanced orange corn is currently marketed through a line of premium milled products under the brand Professor Torbert’s Orange Corn, has received a two-year, $650,000 Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to demonstrate the health and pigmentation benefits of feeding orange corn to poultry on a commercial scale.
The Purdue Asian American and Asian Resource and Cultural Center will be observing Asian Pacific American Heritage Month during the months of April and May. To celebrate, the AAARCC will share stories of Asian American, Asian and Pacific Islander Boilermakers to highlight their early and ongoing positive impact on our campus community and beyond. This year's theme is “Asian/Pacific/Americans in Indiana and the Midwest,” highlighting local history, regional history and lived experiences.
A new episode of “This Is Purdue” features Purdue alum David Graves, the president of Pizza Hut U.S., one of America’s largest pizza chains. A Boilermaker who graduated from Purdue University’s business school, Graves describes how Purdue prepared him with the persistence and perseverance needed to innovate global brands such as Pampers, Pantene and several Yum! Brands restaurants, including KFC (formerly Kentucky Fried Chicken) and Pizza Hut.
