Purdue announced today (April 11) the hire of Mark Lewis as the first chief executive officer of the Purdue Applied Research Institute, the nonprofit applied research arm of Purdue with a particular focus on national security, economic security and food security for the United States.
Danny Milisavljevic, assistant professor of physics and astronomy, was featured on “60 Minutes” in a segment with Scott Pelley on Sunday (April 9). Milisavljevic's research project on the James Webb Space Telescope studying the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A is helping explain humanity's origin story — how the elements our bodies and planets are made of formed.

The Purdue Polytechnic High Schools board of directors has announced Keeanna Warren as the next CEO of Purdue University’s network of public charter high schools. The board voted to approve the decision at its most recent meeting, on April 5. Warren will officially step into the role on July 1.
ATLYS, a classically trained string quartet lauded for its passionate and dynamic performances of unique covers of your favorite pop and rock hits, original compositions and more, will perform free pop-up concerts Wednesday and Thursday (April 12-13) around Purdue’s campus and Greater Lafayette. Featuring former Lafayette resident Jinty McTavish on violin, the group is sought after onstage and in the studio.
Eugene Cernan (BSEE ’56) is best known for having taken humankind’s most recent steps on the moon during NASA’s Apollo 17 mission. Cernan accomplished far more in space than those memorable steps on the moon, however. A group of Purdue history students examined Cernan’s career using documents the Boilermaker astronaut donated to Purdue Archives and Special Collections.
Peter Hollenbeck, vice provost for faculty affairs, has announced his plans to retire from Purdue effective June 30. An internal search for the next vice provost for faculty affairs will begin immediately.
