Building on world-renowned strength in innovation by its faculty, staff, students and alumni, the Purdue Research Foundation and Purdue University have formed Purdue Innovates, a comprehensive system to streamline access and strengthen support to both (a) technology commercialization resources, such as intellectual property licensing and protection, and (b) startup support resources, including programs and funds to launch, scale and invest in Purdue-connected startups in one cohesive structure.
Purdue is coming off a 10-day stretch in which researchers were featured on major national broadcasts, including “60 Minutes,” the “Today” show, CBS' "Money Watch," “PBS NewsHour” and MSNBC. On April 9, CBS’ “60 Minutes” featured Danny Milisavljevic, an associate professor of physics and astronomy, for his collaborative work on the James Webb Space Telescope.
Pablo Zavattieri, the Jerry M. and Lynda T. Engelhardt Professor in Civil Engineering at Purdue, has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The fellow grade of membership recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession and to ASME, and is a distinction given to fewer than 5% of all ASME members.
Registration is open for the next installment of the Westwood Lecture Series on April 27. J. Jill Suitor, Distinguished Professor of Sociology and a faculty associate of the Center on Aging and the Life Course at Purdue, will present “Maybe Mom Did Always Love You Best, But Does It Really Matter? Consequences of Mothers’ Favoritism and Disfavoritism in Later-Life Families.” The talk will take place from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Westwood, President Chiang’s residence.
Purdue and Veo officials today (April 20) will celebrate the introduction of a new fleet of shared electric bikes and scooters for the Purdue campus and West Lafayette. Veo co-founders and Purdue alumni Candice Xie and Edwin Tan will join Purdue President Mung Chiang for a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. The campus community is invited to attend, and a reception will follow.
Purdue is launching Purdue Mobile ID for students to add their official Purdue identification to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and use iPhones, Apple Watches or Android devices to conveniently and securely access campus buildings, purchase meals and more. Faculty and staff, meanwhile, will continue to use hard-copy physical IDs and are not participating in the Purdue Mobile ID effort.
A new episode of “This Is Purdue” features twin sisters and Purdue alumnae Almira “Sugar” Yllana and Giovanna “Spice” Krozel. These two Purdue chemical engineering alums have taken the Boilermaker community by storm. From the Purdue for Life Foundation to the John Purdue Club to the Purdue Women’s Network Chicago chapter, Sugar and Spice have a legacy of university involvement.
