Purdue Day of Giving has already begun, and it continues through midnight tonight. Join Boilermakers around the globe in participating in this 24-hour fundraising effort, where even small donations can make a big impact. Funds raised today will create opportunities for Purdue students, faculty and staff. Donate online at dayofgiving.purdue.edu
or by calling 800-319-2199 (toll-free). In addition, hourly challenges will allow donors to help their favorite college, school, program or student organization earn even more money. More information and a full list of challenges can be found here.
“Scary Barbie” is the affectionate nickname astronomers are calling one of the most energetic and luminous transients ever observed: a supermassive black hole tearing apart a massive star. Danny Milisavljevic, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy in Purdue University’s College of Science and an expert on star life cycles, worked with a team of researchers and an AI program to uncover and identify one of the most luminous, energetic events ever observed in the universe.
Purdue juniors Jay Fazioli, Noelle Naughton and Abigail Soliven have been named 2023 Goldwater Scholars. A thirst for research, discovering new ways to treat persistent illness and solving problems through new knowledge is what propels these scholars and fuels their love of science. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship, which recognizes exceptional sophomores and juniors across the country, is the highest undergraduate honor of its kind. The scholarship program, in honor of U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater, was created to encourage students to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics.

Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including contributions to the literature and to the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology.
Registered dietitian nutritionists are a valuable resource for patients living with a variety of health conditions. That’s why the Department of Nutrition Science is partnering with Purdue Dining and Culinary Services and the Office of Experiential Education to offer students in the Dietetics Learning Community the opportunity to learn knife skills from a chef, work with clients to plan menus for catered multicultural events, and help dining staff prepare food for these events.
