Purdue University students will commemorate their success and be recognized for their persistent pursuit at 2023 Spring Commencement ceremonies today through Sunday (May 12-14). Purdue President Mung Chiang will address undergraduates for the first time at this year’s spring ceremonies, and Kathleen Howell, Purdue’s Hsu Lo Distinguished Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, will provide the keynote for the graduate student ceremony.
Julianna Hachenski was bound to be a Boilermaker. Even after being accepted at several Ivy League and Big Ten universities. Joining fellow members of Purdue’s Class of ’23 at this weekend’s commencement, the upstate New Yorker says she wouldn’t change a thing in choosing to study industrial engineering at Purdue.
Faculty, staff and guests gathered at the Purdue Memorial Union on Tuesday (May 9) for the Faculty Awards Convocation. The annual event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost to recognize colleagues who have earned a range of honors throughout the year, including national and international awards; University, college, and school awards; and Fellow awards. This year’s successful event was the first for Provost Patrick Wolfe and the last for Peter Hollenbeck, vice provost for faculty affairs, who retires in June.
In July 2020, Deja Trotter used her mother’s instinct as she navigated her family through several challenges. Trotter, of Indianapolis, had given birth to her younger son, Dillon, earlier in the year. Her older son, Hendrix, was still receiving care for his tracheotomy. She was trying to keep her family safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. And she was starting classes at Purdue Global to accelerate her accounting degree. As she looks forward to Mother’s Day, Trotter (Purdue Global ’21) and her family have found a new routine, as well as growth.
Entrepreneur, marketing genius, community activist and Angie’s List founder William “Bill” Oesterle was destined to be a Boilermaker for life. Oesterle died at his home early Wednesday (May 10) after a five-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS.
