In the U.S., data centers account for approximately 2% of total electricity consumption; a large percentage of that is for cooling high-performance microchips. Purdue University researchers have received a $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop cooling systems for these microchips, making data centers more efficient and saving energy that will help mitigate climate change.
Purdue researchers across all campuses and academic disciplines have recently received 18 patents on their intellectual property from the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.
Most of these innovations are available to license and bring to market.
For Laura Bowling, professor of agronomy, winning the Murphy Award for Undergraduate Teaching is a tribute to the power of mentorship. Michael Preston grew up in rural Arkansas. Premature deaths of family members were his first exposure to health inequities. Now, as an assistant professor in Purdue’s College of Pharmacy, he’s working on health initiatives that provide road maps to engage communities that tend to be underrepresented, rural and under-resourced.
Al Mondero (Engineering Computer Network) is always very helpful when it comes to helping ECN staff tackle printer issues. Recently, he was extremely quick to come to our aid with a complicated issue on a critical printer in the President’s Office. Al was able to deploy an effective solution that got a user back up and going when all other solutions failed. We appreciate all he does and are glad he is part of our team. – Mason Wilson (Engineering Computer Network)
