Purdue will host the 2023 summer commencement Aug. 5 in Elliott Hall of Music during two ceremonies honoring the persistent pursuits and giant leaps of more than 1,500 students. Since the first commencement ceremony in 1875, summer and winter commencements were added to each year’s spring commencement, making this commencement the 250th in Purdue’s history.
A team composed of Purdue University and Michigan State University researchers became interested in how U.S. cell phone services are designed to comply with regulations. What they found is that adhering to the rules can come at the cost of security. The team has earned a $1.2 million National Science Foundation grant to enable Purdue and MSU to continue their work in identifying and remedying security loopholes behind next-generation 911 services.

The 2023 honorees named to IBJ Media’s second annual Indiana 250, a list of the state’s most influential and impactful leaders include Purdue President Mung Chiang, President Emeritus Mitch Daniels, Executive Vice President for Research Karen Plaut, Trustees Mike Berghoff, Lawrence “Sonny” Beck and Joann Brouilette and many Purdue alumni.
On July 13-14, the Purdue for Life Foundation hosted more than 300 grandparents and grandchildren on the West Lafayette campus for Grandparents University. Participants were able to explore and choose from 13 different majors taught by Purdue faculty and staff. This year’s program sold out in less than a day, and Purdue for Life plans to offer two programs next summer.
In leading Purdue’s international programs for 14 years, Mike Brzezinski helped expand the university’s leadership role as a global institution in spearheading a major enrollment surge of international students. After three decades holding several key leadership roles in international programs, partnerships and student recruitment; Brzezinski announced today (July 24) that he will retire from Purdue, effective Aug. 31.
