Purdue University hosted the summer 2023 Commencement Saturday (Aug. 5) in Elliott Hall of Music during two ceremonies honoring the persistent pursuits and giant leaps of more than 1,500 students. Since the first commencement ceremony in 1875, summer and winter commencements were added to each year’s spring commencement, making this commencement the 250th in Purdue’s history.
With global food fraud estimates as high as $40 billion a year, Purdue researchers are working on tackling the problem with a food “fingerprint” technique sensitive enough to distinguish between foods made from the same ingredients, but in different locations. Bartek Rajwa, a research professor of computational life sciences, and his team are developing a patent-pending, two-part process to provide information about the atomic composition and chemical structure of a food sample, enough to pinpoint the ingredients, the preparation and, potentially, the point of origin.
The Purdue University Board of Trustees ratified faculty and staff appointments, recognizing efforts in discovery, learning and engagement that have advanced Purdue’s land-grant mission while elevating its reputation as a leading research university across the country and around the world. President Mung Chiang acknowledged Purdue faculty who received notable awards for research and scholarship from April through July.
Purdue University in Indianapolis has the nation’s only undergraduate motorsports engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The SRX season will continue to air live on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET every Thursday night through Aug. 17.
The Purdue University Board of Trustees approved 2024 health plans, which will have no employee premium increase for the fifth straight year. The plans for 2024 align with the university’s strategic approach to health care and the Healthy Boiler Wellness Program, and they were designed as part of the ongoing pursuit of improving population health and controlling overall costs for employees and the university.
