In an action needed before bringing commercial air service for Greater Lafayette to Purdue University Airport, the Purdue University Board of Trustees (Aug. 4) gave approval to a new terminal. As one of the few university airports in the country, this airport is where Amelia Earhart instructed flight students in the 1930s. This is a significant next step in Purdue serving the state through “ABC”: Airport for Greater Lafayette, Broadband for rural counties and the (hard tech) Corridor for central Indiana.
Four decades of research have produced a vast pool of knowledge about regulatory T cells, a subset of our immune cells. Bernie Engel, the new Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture, definitely believes the right road led him to Purdue — his professional home since 1985. That road started at his family’s farm in Illinois, where Engel developed his lifelong commitment to agriculture and to farmers. It was early in high school when he realized he would need to leave the farm to fulfill that commitment.
Former Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady was enshrined into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday (Aug. 12). He was the men's basketball coach for 25 years from 1980 through 2005.
